Welcome to Ant and Jules in Namibia. We will be using this blog to keep a diary of events during our two year VSO placement. Our placement roles are quite vague so we are not quite sure what we are letting ourselves in for! We do know that our work will involve facilitating the development of community and possibly hospital based therapy services within the Otjizondjupa region of Namibia. All should become clear over the next few months. We hope you enjoy following our story. Ant and Jules x
Hi guys, i was wondering what the state of diabetes care was like over there. I've started a little support group over here for families affected by Type 1 and my hope for the future is that we reach out further than our own front doors. Could you find out for me? I know you're snowed under!! Just squeeze it in if you can!! Take care. Darren
Hi, diabetes prevalence in the region is very high. This is mainly due to diet (predominently red meat) and lifestyle (lack of exercise). Although no data is easily available, Il see what I can find out on that front. If any patient/carer information leaflets, etc. are being produced copies would be very useful. We can edit them to be appropriate for the different target group and should also be able to get them translated without too much trouble. Can you give me an email address to contact you by to send any further information I get? Ant
Thanks Ant, my main interest is in Type 1 as thats what my son has but i'll try and help around Type 2 if i can. My e-mail add' is langritangpa@aol.com. Really enjoying the posts. A great adventure. Cheers. Darren
